Costa Rica 2011 World Rafting Championship


Costa Rica is located on the Central American isthmus. On the north side is border by Nicaragua. On the south-southeast is border by Panama. On the east side is border by the Caribbean Sea and on the west side is border by the Pacific Ocean. In total, Costa Rica comprises 51,100 square kilometers plus 589 square kilometers of territorial waters.

The climate is tropical year round, however the country has many microclimates depending on elevation, rainfall, topography and by the geography of each particular region. In Costa Rica seasons are defined by how much it rains during a particular period, we don’t have 4 seasons like the rest of the world. We have two main seasons, Rainy Season and Dry Season. Dry season is known to the residents as summer and it goes from December to April, and the rainy season is known to the residents as winter and it goes from May to November.

The primary language spoken in Costa Rica is Spanish, though many residents speaks English as a second language, and some others French, German, Portuguese or Italian as a third language.

The 2011 World Rafting Championship is being held on the Pacuare River in Costa Rica from the 4 to 11 October 2011. The top men’s and top women’s teams from each member federation are invited to this event. Check with your national rafting federation for your own selection race dates where teams qualify through fair and credible selections to represent their country.
